Project Purpose

A sample lesson plan that was for an asynchronous module regarding the introduction to critical thinking was provided with the goal of analyzing the lesson plan's overall structure and effectiveness to provide recommendations on ways that the lesson plan could be improved. 

Skills Demonstrated

Analyzing every aspect of the lesson plan required knowing how to ensure that the learning objectives outlined, which did a wonderful job of providing actionable verbs such as define, identify, explain, apply, and analyze, were seen being applied throughout the lesson plans through the activities and assessments chosen, which this one failed to do. I used my knowledge of andragogy and UDL principles to suggest improvements that would provide learners with engaging activities that were problem-centered and tied back to the learning objectives. Being able to effectively review the lesson plan and identify areas that were lacking, implementing ways to improve it by understanding the importance of learner engagement, activities that provide meaningful data and learning principles like andragogy and UDL shows the thought process that is needed in order to be an efficient instructional designer. 
 

Impact

By making improvements to the lesson plan to ensure that the activities aligned with the course learning module it ensures that learners are able to effectively work through the module by information being scaffolded in meaningful chunks that allow learners to piece together complex information in a way that isn't overwhelming but more manageable. The improvements provided included adding interactive discussion boards to collect data and provide learners with purposeful activities that align with the learning objectives where learners can practice via real-world scenarios. Learners are assessed in different formats that are not solely an assessment that is completed at the end but throughout the module to ensure understanding and provide the instructor with data that will assist in making any needed adjustments based on student performance.
